Founded in 1909, the Montreal Canadiens are the oldest hockey team in the world still operating. With the Toronto Arenas, Ottawa Senators and Montreal Wanderers, the Habs are one of six original NHL team. With 24 Stanley Cups, the franchise is the most successful team in the history of the NHL, far ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs ranked second in scoring with 13 Stanley Cups.

The National Hockey League was created on November 26, 1917 after a meeting between representatives of the National Hockey Association at the Windsor Hotel in Montreal. It is the owners of the Montreal Canadiens, Montreal Wanderers, Ottawa Senators, Quebec Bulldogs, and Toronto Arenas who create the new league. During its first 25 years, the NHL had a variable number of teams bringing together up to 10 teams between 1926 and 1931, but after the Great Depression of 1929 this number will decrease to only six in 1942. These six teams will share the Stanley Cup for the next 25 seasons. Since 1967, the NHL has regularly expanded. For the 2000-2001 season The NHL account thirty different franchises including 7 in Canada and 23 in the United States. By the 2017-2018 season, it will host a 24th American franchise after creating a team in Las Vegas, whose workforce will be made up through an expansion draft.

In 1976, the Quebec ice hockey Federation is created. Hockey Quebec is the only organization recognized and mandated by the provincial government and Hockey Canada to plan, regulate and coordinate the development of minor hockey in Quebec.

Hockey Canada is the national governing body for grassroots hockey in the country. The organization works in conjunction with the 13 provincial branches, the Canadian Hockey League and Canadian Interuniversity Sport in growing the game at all levels. Hockey Canada oversees the management of programs in Canada from entry-level to high performance teams and competitions, including world championships and the Olympic Winter Games. Hockey Canada is also Canada’s voice within the International Ice Hockey Federation.

The Quebec League of Excellence is a provincial hockey league that regroups the activities of the Pee-Wee (AAA and AA), Bantam (AAA and AA) as well as the Midget Espoir divisions.

This tournament known as the Best Buy Provincial Cup, is for the Atom and Pee-Wee divisions and aims to promote the game of hockey and provide young people an unforgettable experience which is to play hockey on an external rink.

Also named the Dodge Cup, the Quebec provincial ice hockey championships is a sport event of a considerable magnitude. Nearly 322 teams lining up some 6,000 hockey players from the 14 administrative regions of Quebec come to conclude the season and determine a champion.

After almost 50 years of existence, the Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament is still a place of unforgettable encounters and memorable souvenirs where thousands of players aged 11 and 12 come defend the colors of their teams. The great names of hockey such as Brad Park, Guy Lafleur, the Gretzky and Howe brothers, Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Steven Stamkos and much more have all participated at this event at one point in their career.

The Ligue de Hockey Préparatoire Scolaire (LHPS) is a school hockey league run by the various schools that are members. As a result, the LHPS leaders recognize the importance of partnering with schools that offer programs that promote the league's broad thrusts that are focused on enhancing athletic development in collusion with educational success.
